MINI UPDATES (19 Aug 2023):

1. Following the decision of military chiefs of ECOWAS member-states to endorse armed intervention. The coup leaders of Niger suddenly requested a meeting with Northern Nigerian emissaries and the President of the ECOWAS Commission.

2. The emissaries and were allowed to see President Bazoum and take pictures with him. Peace dialogue continues as Tinubu seems unwilling to go for military intervention, at least for now.

Thanks for the detailed overview. I am totally unfamiliar with the political situation in that part of the world. Therefore your writings are very welcome. I am astonished that the readership is still so small.

It is time for a quarantine on any European member of Government from Africa. Allow Africans the chance to reform their leaders, to build their institutions with the insulting exploitation of the shameless European Officials and psychotic politicians who have allowed their elites to turn them against their people and debt enslave them.

Free and fair trade based on respect and friendship is Africa’s historical tradition. First you trade natural resources for infra structure and education, then trade resources for manufacturing and technology, before you know with Africa will manufacture its resources on its way to prosperity.

It seems the Brics are the ones who wish to trade fairly, with respect and friendship. We all trade with our circle of friends, with friendship and respect. We even help business clients in trouble because their wellbeing is in our best interest and from our humanity.

So why the sudden US interest in all this? Other then to create more turmoil in light of the recent Russia-Africa Summit? And what is to happen with Wagner in the event of a intervention. I apologize if I'm missing something as i just recently begun following this African region.

The one and only concern of the USA is the prospect of Russia gaining influence in Niger Republic. Apart from that, USA has no problem with the coupists, some of whom are beneficiaries of American military training. I am surprised that many commentators in the alternative media space don't find it curious that the coup leaders are calling on French troops to leave Niger, but have not called on US troops to leave.

There is no Wagner presence in Niger Republic

Likewise, military regimes in Burkina Faso and Mali are vitriolic towards France, but seem to have no problems with the Americans. Only French diplomats are being expelled and French property being destroyed. American diplomats are left to move around freely without problems in both Francophone countries.

I think most Western observers, in alt-media or not, don't even know US troops are (were? rumour is at least some bases have been ordered temporarily evacuated as of the time I write this) there.

From what I get, the coupists succesfully used the threat of Wagner/Russia, without being authorized by Russia to issue such threats.

From Russias pov, taking France down a notch imposes costs on French intransigence concerning Ukraine (French used to be a voice of sanity from Russias pov, then Macron flipped into being an at least public hardline anti Russian ideolouge, which means he can be flipped back). It was also fairly cheap. From what I get the Russians just meant the prod the French a bit, as a warning, and then the Niger government fled to the surprise of Moscow.

The best outcome for Russia is a US vs Nigeria spat over who gets to call the shots in Niger, but its unlikely (I doubt either side would jeopardize their pretty good relations over Niger). The US would have to massively overplay its hand, and the US "Africa hands" are generally speaking realistic competent pragmatists, unlike the US "Eastern Europe hands".

Russia could hope that Nigeria rather then the US replaces France in Niger, and that seems indeed to be what they are trying to achieve. Emphasis on trying.
